“Inexpensive, does its job, but could be better” The current version of the Targus lapdesk is the picture on the far right.

The desk is lightweight, can be used on your lap and on a desk. And can be used fully opened and flat or folded in half and kept at an angle. It is adjustable by an inch or so. The rubber grips keep the laptop from sliding off, while the slits provide ventilation. At the $20-26 range, this lapdesk delivers.

My main complaint about this is that my heavy-handed husband has already broken the plastic kick-stand at its hinge just by picking up the lapdesk. The hinge for the kickstand needs to be reinforced. Another con, is that the kickstand shape is too rounded at the end making an otherwise sturdy lapdesk seem flimsy and unstable, especially with larger laptops. It is the perfect size for a 10″ netbook (asus1000he) and the HP tablets. With the above 2 issues improved upon, I can see this securely holding 17″ laptops.

On another note: this Targus stand does not have flat-sp…

waste of money
As with many things Targus, this is overpriced cheap plastic and it may keep your lap cooler, but doesn’t do a thing for cooling your notebook in any possible way. It also in the Unfolded position, 1. doesn’t fit widescreen laptops well as there is no room for a mouse and 2. probably will break if I lifted it onto my lap. I use the folded position to use the tilt function. It’s still overpriced for what you get. I’d say it’s worth $10 but probably made for about $2. I’ve owned this for 2 months now and the rubber standoffs don’t work very well anymore and the notebook doesn’t stay put in tilt anymore. (that and it will eventually rip my COA’s off the bottom of the Notebook.)…more info

Flimsy, lightweight plastic
I liked the portability and the tilt stand feature but the

thin, flimsy plastic cracked under the weight of my laptop when extended flat. Probably fine for small, lightweight laptops but steer clear if you have a heavyweight!…more info

Does the job well and folds up small.
Based on previous reviews and the two different photos for this product I have what I think is the newer version. It is dark gray plastic with fine speckles and has dark rubber friction pads. I am very happy with this lapdesk and it supports my 17″ macbook pro great. I use it when I am sitting on the couch or even laying down. I mostly use the lapdesk in the unfolded wide configuration but have also found the multi-angle clamshell configuration useful too. You can safely use your laptop on pillows, cushions, bed sheets and soft surfaces that block your laptop cooling intake or exhaust. It stores small because of the folding design. I have another targus stand for the desk and I keep this one folded up in the living room where I use my laptop most of the time. I think it would be great to keep one in the car too. I got it for less than $20 and can’t see paying more. I also have no use for large beefy metal or heavy plastic products. All I needed was something to insulate my legs and allow the laptop vents to breath. I was using a plastic cutting board before I picked up this stand! This works far better since it promotes better air flow….more info
