“Good HD Telecine cut” I was about to buy Blu-ray if there’s any, but found out that it was not released yet so I just bought the newest DVD cut. Actually Sony had it HD telecine and the picure and sound quality is very impressive.

Whether or not I like Paul’s movie making, this one has a lot of violence which I like.

Good movie but a lot could be improved
Having watched this movie tens of times I am now an expert on every scene and one liners of this movie. The acting is mediocre but the script makes it all the best and enjoyable. It’s an exciting movie. I’ve been a fan ever since it came out in late 1990s. There are also a lot of goofs in it for instance when Rico is injured and Carmen (Denise Richards) searches for his name on the screen she says I am surprised there are no wounded and then her colleague/mate says “Bugs don’t take PRISONERS”. She was talking about wounded while a lot of them were shown on that shot any ways. The director could be a lot more careful with those stuff. This is a sci-fi movie with the technological advantages of 1990s. I enjoy it every time I watch it….more info

What Was Verhoeven Smoking?
1: Heinlein’s widow forced them to take his name off this movie “adaptation.” That should be a good indicator.

2: Denise Richards can’t act if you look above her cleavage.

3: As a 21 year veteran, the tactics and strategy aren’t just stupid, they’re boggling. Not entertaining boggling, just dumb. Who sends inadequately armed infantrymen in in line with no arty, air support, intel, logistics, armor, and SHOOTS THE ONLY RADIO OPERATOR to “maintain comsec”?

4: As a science fiction writer, how can there be a “debate” over whether or not the bugs are intelligent, when they have faster than light travel and can hit a city on a moving planet from half a galaxy away? Are we supposed to imagine that is “instinct”?

5: The original parts–bugs bioengineered for specific weapons purposes, was just left as special effects and never discussed.

6: Did I mention the acting was bad?

7: Verhoeven turned a treatise that is required reading in some militaty colleges, on duty, citizenship and morality, which was presented as a limited franchise meritocracy, into a crypto-fascist cesspool of ichor and mindless special effects. On the other hand, we do get to see some silicon-based lifeforms when the chicks’ shirts come off.

8: The basic training scene: There’s a difference between “discipline” and “brutality.” But of course, that’s too subtle a point for this movie, too.

9: There was no car chase. That might have raised it to two stars….more info
